Let it never be said that right-wing Catholic bloggers have given us nothing of value. I confess to having obtained this via Mark Shea‘s blog. To me, the idea of “Star Wars” in French is deliciously hilarious in itself. Add Sartrean subtitles, et voila! Perfection!

The flaw here is a distinct absence of Wookie. I can understand leaving out Han Solo – there are no French cowboys.

I agree on the Wookiee-love, but I think Jean-Paul would most likely have lost an arm had he engaged in discourse with Chewie. And they couldn’t possibly have incorporated Han Solo into this meditation on the essential emptiness of life, because Han Solo is a one-man antidote to la nausee et le spleen. Han Solo is the very essence of joi de vivre and will turn your desespoir to la vie en rose with just one of those scoundrelly smiles!

Actually, there sort of are French cowboys–les gardians of the Camargue. But I’m not sure those people are exactly French. They’ve lived in the region for milennia and I think they parlent Occitan. I’ll have to poke around and see if I can find out anything about them . . . .
