8 Responses to “30 companies that have been the target of Christian boycotts”

Where’s the list of companies that Christian mayors have threatened to block from locating in their community? I guess you could include Chick-Fil-A as Emanual and that guy in Boston probably claim to be Christian.

Except for 2 or 3, I’ve never heard of any of those boycotts. So, I suspect you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel. Of course, you’re trying to make a false equivalency between boycotts and government officials blocking businesses from operating in their communities for ideological reasons. I guess you have to lie when you have nothing else to fall back on.

BTW – You left out Levi Strauss. I’m a Christian and I boycott them because they withdrew support for the Boy Scouts. I’m sure you’ll turn that into a lie too.

Ack. We have too many posts on the same topic going on here. Here is what I responded to H.M. on his somewhat more civil criticism of my list:

“What you say may be a good description of DADvocate’s post, although I do not think it that simple. I think CFA Appreciation Day is partially a reaction to those government official’s declarations but mostly more of the same playing-the-victim against those horrible liberals trying to destroy families and force their lack-of-values down their good Christian throats.

This was more of a general post in response to the many articles (and FB comments from relatives) I’ve read this week about how gay-supporters boycotting CFA is an infringement of free-speech rights.”

As for, “Except for 2 or 3, I’ve never heard of any of those boycotts. So, I suspect you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I started searching for boycotts listed on Christian websites. For each one I did a google search for that particular topic to see if there were any other articles on the same subject. There were many others I didn’t include.

Only the CHicago alderman was attempting to block AFAICT, and I ma not sure he succeeded. The other mayors were simply exercising their First Amendment Rights to say they think the CEO of CFA sucks, and they would not support his business ventures. Too bad for the CEO.

        My good Steve,

Here’s what Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said:

Some cities responded to Cathy’s statements with proper deference to the First Amendment, but others have not. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino initially said, “If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult. …” After considering the issue, though — and probably talking with his attorneys — Menino acknowledged he did not have the power to block the chain from operating in Boston.

          Yup, exactly what I said.

          Steve

        • Mustang Sally says:

Yeah, Menino backtracked and admitted he didn’t have the power (legally) to enforce such a thing.

          • H. M. Stuart says:

            My good Sally,

You may need to get with Steve and determine exactly what the reality is here. If it is as Steve says – “The other mayors were simply exercising their First Amendment Rights to say they think the CEO of CFA sucks, and they would not support his business ventures.” – then there would be nothing he would lack legally to enforce such a thing – that is, withholding otherwise legally issuable business licenses solely because of the applicant’s religious beliefs – and he would have no need to backtrack from an illegal and unconstitutional racketeering threat against a citizen upon advice of counsel. One does not need civil/legal “power” to simply “not support his business ventures”; one simply declines to buy his chicken.

If what you say is true, though, then what are we supposed to make of our good Steve’s perception of reality?

Both of you cannot be correct in your statements, so you two get together and decide which one of you is going to sacrifice their intellectual integrity and public reputation for the other.

btw, I never said all these companies were being boycotted for gay issues; just that they are being boycotted as that is an oft-used tactic of Christian groups.
