I was almost 8 years old the “Day the Music Died.” I always had faint memories of “Peggy Sue,” “Chantilly Lace,” “La Bamba” and this song, “Come On, Let’s Go.” Great song, and, boy, can those kids dance!

Used to make you smile? Still makes me smile. I loved “Peggy Sue” I remember walking down the street as a kid singing to myself, “Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty Peggy sue…” As I’m not really much of a music aficionado, I didn’t know who sang “Peggy Sue” until about 10 years later. Some how I picked up on the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens earlier.

Sorry if any duplicate posts come up – I think the spam catcher caught them because I tried to put a URL link into those posts.

I don’t think you are pulling my leg, but I’m never sure about that…

        Okay, I’ll assume you aren’t…

That one liner in my original post was from the opening lines of Don McLean’s song American Pie which also recounts the story of “The Day the Music Died” and what happened in America afterwards.

Which was the tie-in for my comment on your post.

If you aren’t familiar with the song, it is well worth checking out.

Sorry. I don’t like “American Pie” at all and didn’t recognize those lyrics. If you’d driven your Chevy to the levy, or been drinking whiskey and rye, I’d caught on. I liked it when it first came out years ago, but some where along the line it began grating on me. I can’t push the radio button fast enough when it comes on the radio. As I said, I’m not much of a music aficionado and my knowledge is spotty.

I can sing much of “Cool water” as my father played it on the stereo way too much.
