They’re still around, except some of them wear roller blades. I proudly claim this lovely young lady as my daughter. She’s been working at a local drive-in for about 6 months.

She turned 16 in May. I bought her a decent 10 year old Hyundai. She’s been working, paying for her own gas, buying a lot of her own clothes and, as always, a great girl. She’s also an honor student. I wish and pray everyone can have a daughter or son as great as her.

She thinks I’m silly to make such a fuss over her being a roller skating car hop. I explained a little of the history to her and that she’s now a part of Americana. Many little kids, older kids (especially teenage boys), and adults will remember her for a long time. I still remember sitting in a car with my parents, waiting for the girl on roller skates to come gliding up with my hamburger, fries and Coke.

P.S. The picture doesn’t do her justice. I guess the camera does add 10 pounds. Or, it might be the black apron around her waist. She actually verges on skinny with athletic legs.

Looking at her, I can see she is really blessed. She takes after her mother. ;+)

Actually, she looks scarily similar to my mother and my youngest sister when they were the same age. They’re all much prettier than me.

This has been bugging me all day. There was only one roller skating car hop place in our town. I think it was the A & W, but my know it all buddy claims they never had roller skaters. Anyway, good looking kid. I guess all the kids prefer inlines now.

Thanks, Steve and Kim. My daughter prefers inlines. That have both at the restaurant, but she’s rarely skated on regular skates, if ever. She picked up ice skating quite easily about 10 years ago.

The A&Ws where I grew up had roller skaters. As recently as 25 years ago, I visited an A&W in Tennessee that had roller skaters and a place in Corbin, KY (also home of the original KFC) but I can’t remember for sure if it was an A&W.
