Is there anyone else here besides me who would be willing to entertain the idea that at some psychological level, the Romney’s don’t want for Mitt to win the Presidency?
I’m not saying that they do feel that way, but anyone okay with just playing with that idea and seeing how well it matches up with these ongoing events?
Here’s another point to ponder – can we be honest about the candidates who were featured in the 2012 GOP primaries for a moment?
Did anyone else here besides me look at that crowd of candidates and ask themselves if this was all some elaborate joke?
Anyone here besides me interested in exploring the idea that the Old Money/Corporate wing of the GOP didn’t really want to win this time around? One point to start off with the speculation – should a massive financial meltdown occur, or even a multi-year stagnant economy, they would rather Obama be in office during that time so that they could win big in 2016?
1) I wouldnt make too much of Ann’s comment. I think she is just talking like anyone would who card about their spouse. It is a high stress, time consuming job.
2) I wondered the same thing about Obama in 2008. I thought this would be a very long recovery. I thought Europe would implode. (Still cant see how they keep hanging on.) I wondered if they were nominating such an inexperienced guy hoping that they could then own the presidency for years. I decided no. The electorate has an incredibly short memory. I think they also decided almost anyone could beat the GOP that year. I think the same thing about the GOP this year. They assumed anyone could and should beat Obama.
3) Yes, the rest of the candidates were awful. The social cons had way too much say, so they kept trying to push for “not Romneys” that would have been awful in the general. They will keep guys like Christie and Daniels out of it in the future.

Ann Romney: “I think my biggest concern, obviously, would just be for his mental well-being. I have all the confidence in the world in his ability, in his decisiveness and his leadership skills, in his understanding of the economy, in his understanding of what’s missing right now in the economy – you know, the pieces that are missing to get this jump-started…. So for me I think it would just be the emotional part of it.”
Sounds like a concerned and supportive spouse. I guess you’re waiting for the “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country,” moment. Or, for her to start planning elaborate vacations a la taxpayer expense.
My good John E.,
I believe you are incorrect.
According to CBS News (H/T Ann Althouse), Mitt Romney’s mental well-being will be his biggest challenge, not merely her biggest worry.
Obviously, such a mentally problematic candidate should concern us all.

An awkward choice of words, perhaps. However, look at photos of any president at the time of his election, and at the end of his term. They all have that 100 meter stare. Quite frankly, seeking the presidency is prima facie evidence that the person has a screw loose.
