This is a subject I’ve been meaning to write about, but have not had the time to give its due. Fortunately, SLOB friend Leslie Eastman does an excellent job saying what needs to be said.

Democracy cannot survive without an honest and independent press.  America has lost that free and independent press as reporters are shockingly uniformly Obama sycophants.

We have a record number of Americans on food stamps, a plummeting labor force as the hopeless give up looking for work, serial trillion-dollar deficits, and foreign policy disasters in Africa. Under any prior President, or with even the veneer of an honest press, this would all be constant, front-page news and the President would be polling in the 30′s.

The press decides elections by deciding what news the people get.

Here’s Democrat and former Jimmy Carter aide Pat Caddell explaining.

You know, if you take JMK’s writings seriously about how the US isn’t really a Democratic Republic, but instead has been run since Wilsonian times as a Corporatist entity by a group of elites who value stability and a managed populace, then it would naturally follow that the corporate media would behave in the way Author Varones describes.

Not saying it is true, just saying that a case could be made.

This meme has been building for a while. A variation of the stabbed in the back theory.

    • John E. says:

Might there be some truth to it – Eisenhower’s MIC, for example?

      • W.C. Varones says:

Eisenhower was absolutely right about the MIC.

But I view this as a different issue. Reporters and anchors are almost universally liberal, and seem to have fallen for the cult of Obama. I don’t think there’s a corporate media strategy behind it.

Sure there could John. But then, somehow the GOP keeps getting their guys elected. I guess they could seriously believe that they should win every election and only the press keeps them from doing so, but I dont really think people on the right are that stupid. I think what they ignore is the quality of their candidate and their ideas. The election is a true binary choice. It doeos not matter that much if Obama is a mediocre candidate, which he is, he just needs to be better than Romney. Even now, we are talking about the press, and not Romney’s policy ideas. I know my corporation wont succeed if I just go around trying to find other people to blame if things are not going well.

    • You mean, like the theory of discrimination against the minorities?

And that is why the Republic will cease to exist if Obama is re-elected.
