A recent exchange between me and Yahoo Customer Care over a nag screen which has recently begun to appear at every login. The nag screen at every login requires one to either supply an optional address or to click “Remind Me Later” each time in order to access Yahoo email:

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Accounts Services.

I understand that you were prompted with backup address. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you and will work with you to rectify the issue.
To help improve the security of your account, we’ve been prompting users to add a mobile number for their Yahoo! Account. Adding your mobile phone number to your Yahoo! Account is one of the most simple and fastest way to recover and protect your account.

By providing this info, you’ll be alerted of any changes to your account and you’ll have a quick way to recover your password should you need to in the future.

If you do not have a mobile number, if you do not want to provide one or if your country is not currently supported, please click *Remind Me Later* rather than closing your browser window. This will ensure you won’t be asked to provide your mobile again for another month.

We appreciate your understanding in this regard.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Accounts Services.

Regards,
Ritz

At the time, I was paying additional monies for this premium service offered by Ritz.

    [HMS had previously said:]

Customer Service Rep Ritz tells me clicking “Remind Me Later” will stop the nag screen for a month. This is not true: the nag screen blocks access to my account on every login. In fact, you currently have a Yahoo Help forum filled with people with exactly the same problem I am reporting now.

I know why you want the info. I simply don’t see a need to supply it to you. This obstruction of my ability to use my pre-paid Yahoo email is why I recently cancelled my paid premium services and have begun a search for another provider. There are too many good alternatives to endure this type of poor customer service and runaround. There is certainly no reason I should pay for it.

Tell me how to stop the nag screen permanently, or do it yourself.

    Ritz,

The nag screen appears on every login now, not once a month.

I get that same message. It seems there’s another link, other than the “Remind me later” link, I click to get past that page. I don’t see any benefit to giving Yahoo a phone number or anything else. More than providing security, my phone number is likely to end up in some telemarketer’s hands. I don’t associate any financial information, phone numbers, my address or my place of work with any of my email address accounts.

      My good DAD,

It appears this plague has now infected all of Yahoo.

Rather than allow myself to continue to be tormented by demons masquerading as chai wallahs, I elected to create a pair of incestuous twins locked in oral email coitus, each now feverishly giving the needed Yahoo! to the other.

        My dear HM:
I too, had a similar problem with Yahoo. It can be solved with some work, but it would be easier for me to do it for you than describe it. If you would send me your Yahoo information, including passwords and and account numbers for your payment method to Yahoo, I can handle it. There is this IT guy with the Nigerian Fincance Ministry that I know…..
